Pamlico is an early season ripening Southern highbush variety, introduced by North Carolina State University’s Dr. Jim Ballington and colleagues in 2003 at the Castle Hayne Horticultural Research Station. Fruit is considered medium-sized with good flavor and firmness, suitable for hand or machine harvest. Plants are vigorous and resistant to blueberry stem blight.

Plant yield, vigor and growth habits: Plants are productive, vigorous with a semi-upright growth habit. Has good resistance to stem blight. Berry qualities: Berries are small with good color, picking scar, firmness and flavor, and good post-harvest fruit quality.(식물의 생산력, 활력, 성장 습관:식물은 생산적이고, 반-완전한 성장 습관을 가지고 있습니다. 줄기망침병에 대한 저항이 높습니다. 베리 품질: 좋은 색깔, 좋은 과병흔, 단단함과 맛, 그리고 수확 후 과일 품질이 좋은 크기는 작은 편입니다.)

Additional recommendations: Berries may be either hand or machine harvested. Blooms are highly self fertile, reducing the need for pollinizer cultivars.

Breeding history: Released by North Carolina State University in 2003; patented.

Vaccinium corymbosum, the northern highbush blueberry, is a species of blueberry native to eastern North America, from the Great Lakes region east to Nova Scotia, and south through the Northeastern United States and Appalachian region, to the Southeastern United States in Mississippi. Other common names include blue huckleberry,tall huckleberry, swamp huckleberry, high blueberry, and swamp blueberry. Vaccinium corymbosum is a deciduous shrub growing to 6–12 feet (1.8–3.7 m) tall and wide. It is often found in dense thickets. The dark glossy green leaves are elliptical and up to 5 centimetres (2.0 in) long. In autumn, the leaves turn to a brilliant red, orange, yellow, and/or purple. The flowers are long bell or urn-shaped white to very light pink, 0.33 inches (8.4 mm) long. The fruit is a 0.25–0.5 inches (6.4–12.7 mm) diameter blue-black berry. This plant is found in wooded or open areas with moist acidic soils.
